New Hampshire House says NO to Real-ID!
On Wednesday, March 8th, the New Hampshire State House overwhelmingly voted in favor of HB1582. This bill says:
In short, the State Reps in New Hampshire believe the Real ID Act is unconstitutional, and we will not comply with the Feds in this matter... But wait, there's more...
This is not a "done deal" yet -- the bill now goes to the State Senate, hopefully to be ratified. If it does, the Governor needs to sign off for it to become law. Needless to say, we pro-Freedom people will be doing everything we can to make that happen!

The NH State Transportation Committee suggested that this bill was "Inexpedient to Legislate", a diplomatic way of saying "Kill this Bill". Yet, when all 400 State Representatives were asked for their opinion, they went contrary to the wishes of Committee, and contrary to the edict of the US Federal Government.

I am so very proud to be living in a country who can say that we have a great state in our ranks such as New Hampshire. Currently I live in Virginia and I am praying everyday that the REAL ID Act of 2005 does not go into effect. I feel that our beautiful America is being turned into a police state right before our eyes.

In a nutshell, the bill was killed in the Senate by parliamentary tactics; read the details here.
Never fear: the same wording will certainly be introduced again in the next legislative session, in January 2007. We're not done yet!!

Note that it was State Representative Howard C. "Crow" Dickinson who, after the House Transportation Committee voted to ITL the bill and put it on the consent calendar, took it OFF the consent calendar, thereby forcing a House floor debate and the eventual vote to overturn the ITL committee recommendation and pass the bill. Crow Dickinson is responsible for, among other things, the addition to the NH state constitution, in 1982, of Article 2a: "All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property, and the state."
