Wolves and cougars in New Hampshire?

John Harrigan muses about possibly seeing wolves in today's Union Leader column.

"What about cougars?" he said. "I'm sure that we have them." This is a guy who spends a lot of time in the woods.

"Me too," I replied. "Wolves, too. My wife and I are certain that we've had at least three close encounters of the wolf kind."

Now, we know our canines, and are on familiar terms with our two resident families of coyotes, and there are no big dogs or wolf hybrids running around in our neck of the woods. These were wolves.

Anybody else think they've seen a wolf in New Hampshire? Interesting possibility...as is the possibility of cougars running around too.
